My Story

Finally, an approach that is the opposite of that big, bloated, muscle-head look!

Why I started this site.

My name is Tim Downey and when I turned 16 years old most of the guys in my high school were just getting into weight lifting with the main purpose of getting as big and strong as possible. Over the next few years the big thing was bodybuilding. I remember watching movies like Pumping Iron and seeing Arnold Schwarzenegger and Lou Ferrigno all over the place. I spent most of the 90′s with the goal of getting as big as possible. While getting big did happen, so did weight gain. I quickly got that big, bulky, bodybuilder type look that was so desired at the time.

Then in 1999 something amazing happened. The movie Fight Club came out and I just couldn’t believe how amazing these guys looked without being overly muscular. I dabbled over the next five or so years trying to get rid of all that excess muscle and fat that I had gained in the past but it just wasn’t happening.

In 2007, after seeing some vacation pictures of myself, I finally said enough was enough and that I needed to lose 30 lbs. I looked alright in a suit or with casual clothes on because I had enough muscle underneath my fat but I just couldn’t get rid of that bloated look. I was 5’10 and 210 lbs. and I just didn’t look right.

The problem was, that when I went to the internet to get advice or learn a new routine or technique, everything that I came across was about body building and gaining muscle. I couldn’t find anything on how to get that lean, Holly wood, sexy-type physique that most men want and 99% of women desire. And that is the reason why I started this site.

Over the next few years, after trying hundreds of different methods and strategies, I finally got my weight down to 190 lbs. while maintaining my muscle. And today (2010) I am at 180 lbs. with the goal of being at 165 lbs. by summer, which won’t be a problem. I know how to get the exact physique I am after now with a few tweaks. And I want to share with you everything that I have learned to get to this point. Because I look and feel the best I ever have at the age of 37.

Why listen to me

I have been working out for over 20 years now and I clearly know what it takes to get lean while maintaining muscle. I can show you exactly what it takes to get that lean, Hollywood look that so many men and women desire. I have methods that flat out work and will have you looking amazing in no time.

Although I’ve never trained anyone I do have a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Physiology and Kinesiology which should give me some credibility in the area of fitness, health and how the body works.

Here are some of the methods that I will discuss on my site:

  • Low reps are the way to go to build hard dense muscle.
  • Why I think Eating 6 small meals a day is terrible advice.
  • Taking short breaks from eating will get you lean without losing muscle or slowing your metabolism.
  • Why you need to stop all that long boring cardio that has you in such a rut.
  • Working out between 4 and 6 hours a week is all you need to look fantastic.
  • Why you should avoid squats, dead lifts and bent over rows to build a pleasing physique.
  • Why you should avoid direct leg work altogether.
  • Why adding in body weight work besides weight training will give you a real chiseled look.
  • Drinking beer and eating pizza is a must. Life is too short to pass up on great food.

That is just a taste of some the methods that work. You will be amazed at the difference in your physique after trying out some of my theories.  My goal is to help each and every person who visits my site reach their dreams and goals.

Comments

I want my comment section to be interactive. I want people who come to my site to get as much if not more out of the comments than they do from my posts. What good would this site be if it was just me writing all the time and no one was interacting with each other.

I will do my best to answer any questions or thoughts that you have in the comment section in order to help you get the most out of this site.

In my opinion, happiness is achieving things in life, that you find worthwhile, through hard work.

I appreciate you!

Tim Downey

  6. Tim,
I like the concept, I think most guys are coming to the realisation that being huge and bulky is not the be all and end all. The idea of sharing how you go about achieving the lean look is a great one. Personally I am finding a combination of Intermitent Fasting, Crossfit and Weight Training has put me in the best shape of my life, all at the age of 34.
